New York City Pickleball

City Guide

In NYC, you can find a pickleball game any day of the week, but take note that most of the courts are taped lines or painted lines on asphalt. You'll only find properly surfaced courts at four locations (all in the outer boroughs), and only one of those has permanent nets. But don't be discouraged! That doesn’t mean it will be hard to find a game, just expect to be playing on asphalt or handball courts.

Local communities are most often organized via the Team Reach app or Slack Groups. The codes and invite links for these groups are linked below.

Outdoor Open Play

Houston & 6th (William F. Passannante Ballfield) - West Village, Manhattan
Courts: 6 taped courts on asphalt, community brings portable nets
Hours: Daylight, play typically begins around 9am
Erne Scoop: Near West Village, a group of 3.5+ level players brings portable nets and plays most weekday mornings. Saturdays and Sundays tend to be more crowded. Historically, the group has paid for a permit on Sunday mornings from 9am to noon, so they request a donation or $3 to help cover the permit and balls.

Sol Lain Playground - Lower East Side, Manhattan

Hours: Daylight, play typically begins around 9am

North Meadow Handball Courts - Central Park, Manhattan
Courts: 3 handball courts with pickleball lines, community brings portable nets
Hours: Daylight, play typically begins around 9am

Pier 2 Handball Courts - Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn
Courts: 6 handball courts with pickleball lines (covered and with lights!), community brings portable nets

Leif Ericson Pickleball Courts - Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

Marine Park Tennis Courts - South Brooklyn
Courts: 4 painted courts on a converted tennis court
Hours: Daily, 11am-2pm
Erne Scoop:  Purportedly the oldest group of pickleballers in Brooklyn (by time played not age!), this group is the model for cooperation with the NYC Parks Department. They have an onsite equipment box with six nets, brooms, balls, and leaf blowers, so the courts are always in great condition. Twenty members have keys to the box, so make sure you get to know them. Skill level here ranges from beginner to 5.0, but the regulars will help make sure you end up in the right game.
