Four months ago we posted the first NYC pickleball guide. The community growth and development in the city since then has been off the charts, so it's already time for a refresh!
From the newly finished permanent courts at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Heights to the booming community in Central Park, there is pickleball for everyone. Read on!
Outdoor Open Play
Manhattan
Houston & 6th (William F. Passannante Ballfield) - West Village, Manhattan
Courts: 6 taped courts on asphalt, community brings portable nets
Hours: Daylight hours.
Courts are generally open in the mornings and early afternoons for open level play, and games are organized through the Team Reach group below.

For 3.5+ level play, the group is permitted on Sundays from 8-11am. Other times are organized through the Team Reach group below.

Erne Scoop: Portable nets and balls are generally brought by the organizers. Please help them out by contributing $3 per person per session! This money goes towards balls, nets, and weekly permits. Look out for Katherine and David, the local leaders at these courts.
Corporal John A. Seravalli Playground - West Village, Manhattan
Courts: 2 asphalt courts with painted lines, bring your own net

St. Vartan Handball Courts - Murray Hill, Manhattan
Courts: 4 handball courts with pickleball lines, community brings portable nets
Hours: Daylight, 3.0+ open play typically begins around 9am and again around 5pm
Erne Scoop: Another welcoming NYC pickleball community for beginner and intermediate players. When all four courts are occupied, look out for the challenge court to prove your skills.
Sol Lain Playground - Lower East Side, Manhattan
Courts: 3 painted courts on asphalt, community brings portable nets
Hours: Daylight, open play on the weekends from 9am-1pm
Erne Scoop: Players here are generally more advanced, 3.75+ players.
North Meadow Handball Courts - Central Park, Manhattan
Courts: 3 handball courts with pickleball lines, community brings portable nets
Hours: Daylight, play typically begins around 9am

Although these courts are tight on space, players are here regularly when the weather cooperates. You’re also surrounded by beautiful Central Park!

Pier 2 Handball Courts - Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn
Courts: 4 permanent pickleball courts! With nets and lights!
Hours: Sunrise until 11pm (8pm in the winter)

Erne Scoop: The surface quality is low at Squibb park, but the views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan make it all worth it! Folks tend to use the same Team Reach group as Pier 2.

John J. Carty Park Pickleball Courts - Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

Marine Park Tennis Courts - South Brooklyn
Courts: 4 painted courts on a converted tennis court
Hours: Daily, 11am-2pm
Erne Scoop: Purportedly the oldest group of pickleballers in Brooklyn (by time played not age!), this group is the model for cooperation with the NYC Parks Department. They have an onsite equipment box with six nets, brooms, balls, and leaf blowers, so the courts are always in great condition. Twenty members have keys to the box, so make sure you get to know them. Skill level here ranges from beginner to 5.0, but the regulars will help make sure you end up in the right game.
